Las Vegas is bracing itself as the biggest event in the NFL calendar comes to town. The San Francisco 49ers will take on the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday in Super Bowl LVIII. It’s an event that has bettors, sports fans, and even pop stars excited – with Taylor Swift likely to be in attendance.

The Las Vegas Super Bowl Committee has estimated that 450,000 people will visit Sin City for the big game. According to research completed by the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority (LVCVA), the average Las Vegas visitor will spend $150 per day gambling in casinos. This means that casinos stand to profit by as much as $67.5m from the influx of sports fans on Sunday alone.

The LVCVA estimates Las Vegas will make even more through food, drinks, hotels, and game-related items. Visitors will spend $215m on this, while the total economic impact will reach around $500m, according to officials.

For comparison, the city supposedly benefited from an economic impact of $1.2bn from the Las Vegas F1 Grand Prix in 2023. Only 300,000 people attended that event. but it took place over mutliple days.

Betting on the Super Bowl is expected to increase across the US. The American Gaming Association (AGA) has predicted that 68 million Americans will bet $23bn on the Super Bowl this year, a 35% increase from 2023. Around 46% of those wagers will be placed online, 36% will be casual bets among friends, and 24% in squares or pool competitions.
