Tournaments already underway

Hot on the heels of the immensely successful WSOP.com Online Super Circuit Series, WSOP.com has both announced and launched the WSOP Spring Online Championships. The month-long online poker tournament series began Wednesday, April 1 and concludes Sunday, May 3.

more than 100 events and over $4 million in guaranteed prize pools

Across the entire series, there are more than 100 events and over $4 million in guaranteed prize pools. There are buy-ins for players of all bankrolls, with tournaments ranging from $10 all the way up to $1,000.

The tournaments are open to poker players in Nevada, New Jersey, and Delaware.

Unveiled and launched quickly

Though the WSOP Spring Online Championships were unveiled and launched quickly, that they exist is not a surprise. WSOP.com has had a major tournament series each season.

The summer series is usually the largest because it is held during the World Series of Poker, so Nevada, and in turn WSOP.com, gets an influx of players traveling from all over the world.

With the WSOP in jeopardy and people staying home because of the coronavirus pandemic, the Spring Online Championships numbers could put past series to shame.

12 Warmup events, 100 Championships events

The WSOP Spring Online Championships are effectively split into two parts. The Championships “proper” begin this coming Sunday, April 5. From there through May 3 there will be an even 100 events, averaging about three per day.

Until then, there are a dozen tournaments that constitute the “Spring OC Warmup.” There is really no observable difference between the Warmup and the official Championships events, except that these started on Wednesday.

And so far, so good. All three tournaments that ran on Wednesday easily beat their guarantees with two absolutely crushing them.

The first one, $30 No-Limit Hold’em Deepstack, had a $25,000 guarantee and ended up with a prize pool of over $70,000 thanks to 758 players contributing 1,494 rebuys and 340 add-ons. The $100 buy-in $20,000 guaranteed No-Limit Hold’em event drew 330 players and 168 rebuys, generating a prize pool of $45,816. The latest tournament last night – $50 No-Limit Hold’em 8-Max – fared the worst, but still beat its $15,000 guarantee by more than $6,000.

Highlight events dot the schedule

The Main Event of the WSOP Spring Online Championships will be on the series’ final day, May 3. The $525 buy-in tournament has a $300,000 guarantee and does allow reentries.

That is not the priciest tournament of the Championships, though. There are several high roller events with $1,000 buy-ins scattered throughout the month.

Each Sunday before the final weekend will feature a No-Limit Hold’em event with a $215 or $320 buy-in and a guaranteed prize pool of at least $100,000.

Two lucky winners will receive $500, four will lay claim to $250, and 10 more will get $100 each

Also of note on the WSOP Spring Online Championships schedule are the two Player Appreciation tournaments, held on April 26 and May 3. Both are $100 buy-in events with rebuys and $100,000 guarantees.

In addition to regular prize payouts, the tournaments will also randomly award 16 players extra cash prizes. Two lucky winners will receive $500, four will lay claim to $250, and 10 more will get $100 each.
